It’s been difficult to communicate how the current political situation is going to affect our US customers as the details seem to change almost daily. At this time the US government has chosen to preserve your $800 de minimis threshold, a rule that allows duty-free imports of goods valued at $800 or less per person, per day into the United States. This means that any of our orders valued at US$800 or less shipped to you in the US remain duty and tariff free. This could, of course, change at any time, though we are hopeful that pressure from the American public will keep at least this status quo.
As a business that imports and exports tens of thousands of dollars worth of products across the Canada-US border each year, we are small potatoes to the politicians making these decisions. However, this small business supports our family and pays our bills so all of this uncertainty is very stressful. We are optimistic for the future while planning for any eventuality.
